John Kirk - Provincial 3rd Grand Principal

JohnKirkBorn in Carshalton in the Surrey suburbs of London John grew up in nearby Epsom. At the age of 20 he joined the Metropolitan Police where he spent 6 years before transferring to the Suffolk Police in 1973. He served until retiring in 1995, as Temporary Chief Inspector at Newmarket. After leaving the Police he was employed as the Fraud Team Manager for a partnership of three local authorities until finally retiring in 2009.

He has been married to his wife Lola for 50 years and they have a daughter and a son, and 4 grandchildren.

John is a keen golfer, that doesn’t mean good, and plays at every opportunity he gets. Also since retiring he has learned to dinghy sail at Lackford Lake near Bury St Edmunds. He says that he left it a bit late to learn to sail and his lack of mobility, plus ability, often means that he spends more time in the lake than on it !!  He is an active volunteer with the WASH Sailability charity at Lackford Lake providing the sailing experience for people with disabilities.

He was initiated into Ala Lodge at Stowmarket in 1988 and became WM in 1998. He was Secretary of the Lodge for a number of years. He is a member of Phoenix & Ala Chapter at Stowmarket and was MEZ in 2005. He has served in the Provincial Chapter as both an Assistant and Deputy Director of Ceremonies before becoming Provincial Scribe E in 2014.  He was appointed Provincial Third Grand Principal in June 2017.
